Social Inspirations of the Week

So it has been a slow week, especially after last week of daily post, but I have had a tight schedule. I started another semester this week, so had to get my priorities set. Also Super Bowl is in town and traffic and such is putting a damper on my regular routine.

Anyway as I continue to blog I try to add new material to see if you guys are interested. I used to have an obsession of the week, but not sure if you guys want me to bring that back or not. In the mean time I was looking through all of my pictures in my phone, my storage limit is hanging by a thread.

I notice I have hundreds of screen shots of pictures that I enjoy on my social networks, but I never share them. There is a capsule of them. So I decided that at the end of each week to share my favorite pictures I see throughout the week. Rather it is fashion, travel, or lifestyle related.

I will call it "Social Inspirations" for now...

80's Called...They Want Their Pants Back

So I bought an olive 80's looking pants suit at Goodwill a few weeks back. It was just hanging there looking depressed, with cheetah print removable fur collars. I was wondering why, on a Saturday 50% off morning, it was still sitting there. Many people don't see potential in thrift stores, well I won't say no one, but a lot of things are over looked. Potential is all I see when I walk in there.

Which brings me to my point that these big ass wide legged trousers are connected to a jump suit. I tucked in the 80's era top into the pants and viola!

Ashley from Striped Anchor - Nordstrom Winner

Congrats to Ashley of Striped Anchor, for the winner of the Nordstrom gift card giveaway! After reading through everyone's stories, goals, and creative ideas, Ashley stood out to me the most. Mainly because her goals were simple and to the point.

They don't put too much pressure on you mentally, which makes them easier for you to accomplish and create even more goals for yourself. One step at a time is how life should be, however I loved reading through everyone's goals and ideas for this year. It was hard to choose and Thank you for sending them in.

I also enjoyed her background story and she is from Chi-town! Hey girl Hey....

Her style is classy, chic, and I want to say mod. I love it!

She wrote:

"My goals & ambitions for 2015 are pretty simple, being a better person than I was in 2014 & I wanna travel more, take risks, release a part of me that no one's ever seen before, in a positive aspect of course. And pushing myself beyond the limits, blogging more, networking, getting my name out there & not holding back."

"I'm from Chicago as well, been here all my life, I have a few fashion icons but my top one would be my grandmother, Dollie. Growing up with her she influenced me a lot, not just with fashion but being a lady over all. She was the sweetest, most giving person ever. Her style was very classy & I've always liked that..."

Anniversary x The Coldest Winter Ever x Skateboart

It's my blog anniversary week! My first anniversary and I am really excited. I am still sleepy from my Saturday night celebration, one night of drinking leads to two nights of me tired as hell. But I have so many fun things this week, giveaways, a year in personal camera phone pics, my dinner pics, outfits, thank yous, favorite blogs I follow, and more. If you have been following me since day one, I truly truly thank you and excited to share more.

Lets start by getting into my look. So if you actually do read what I am typing, you will remember when I said I will be shooting more with the arts. Not just my love for fashion, but arts, wine, food, and living. I have been thrifting more as well.

So I ended up at a skate park that is about fifteen minutes from my home. I have driven past this park hundreds of times and never knew I would find such amazing street art.

I found this blue trench in Goodwill and it just so happens that the artwork in the bowl matched perfectly. The coat I bought for $7!

The skateboarders were also nice enough to give me room for pics and join me. His name is Joey, he was really cool and talented.

Get to Know The M.O.C Brand

My second get to know article goes to The M.O.C Brand. I wanted to feature them today because they add humor to fashion and I need a good laugh. They are also from the Midwest and reside in Beloit, Wisconsin, where I attended high school and spent a good portion of my life. Yes, Wisconsin...Yes, black people live there...No, not just cheese.

Let's get to the point. So you know memes right? Yes the funny picture with captions that are all over the internet. Well Tony Cernglia and Joseph Evans, of The M.O.C Brand decided to take another approach and create a business by embroidering popular memes to clothing and hats.

My favorite "Kermit Tea" meme

All Black Everything

Winter is still here and so are my faux furs. I seriously cannot get enough of faux furs because I know it will heat up in AZ in the next few weeks probably lol. I really try not to spend too much on winter attire, but I want to be able to show my winter style for the blog. So I am just living in thrift stores this season and I struck gold that I can't wait to share.
As much as I would like to think I was this cool, this faux fur vest was not thrifted and you will never guess where I bought it from. Also I made the clutch I am holding.

I went to Cali for the week of Christmas and decided to see what sales I could find for winter attire.

Get to know Cocoa and Breezy

I wanted to add a new category to the blog where I highlight small business and my hidden shopping gems. In this first feature of the year I wanted to share two beautiful queens Cocoa and Breezy. Cocoa and Breezy are twin sisters based out of New York who started their own sun glass company.

Growing up they were criticized by others on their unique style and look, so they began to wear sunglasses on a daily to help with their confidence. Eventually it lead them to start designing and create their own line. I love their story and this is a great example of turning your fears and insecurities into your strengths.

Celebrities from around the globe have been seen wearing Cocoa and Breezy designs. From Rihanna...

Ponchos and Tequila

Since I recently wore a poncho, I wanted to highlight the trend and give you a cool tequila recipe. Why not...its 2015! Anyway, ponchos have been around for centuries, but I only remember them being fashionable in the 70's hippie phase, the 90's grudge look, and now again or the season. Ever since Burberry showcased the poncho on the runway, they have been everywhere.

I couldn't really see myself getting into this trend, until I found one that showcased my love for pops of color. Also the poncho is the most comfortable, laziest garment that you can still look chic in.

I've been using mine as a blanket, coat, and dress lol.

Some Art Sh*t and A Poncho

Happy New Year! Back in town and back in action. My first look of 2015 and I must say that I am extremely happy about it. It isn't a major jaw dropping look, but the perfect way to show how the direction of the blog will go. Remember I wanted to incorporate my love for art and add more self expression.

I think we forget and get lost in our everyday lives and lose ourselves. We look up and notice we are walking with sheep instead of running like wolves. We forget that clothing is an art form and used for self expression, not just trends and to be "cool". There is nothing wrong with trends, I follow them as you can see, but as long as we stay true to ourselves. Rules to fashion should be what you love and slay shit everyday!

Ok, I will go on and on, but I chose this first artwork of 2015 because of the bubble air quote. The bubble just has a lot of scrambled symbols. For me this art piece is a lesson I need to take with me in 2015. Not always listening to negativity, comments, distractions, etc.
